In the face of an unexpected challenge, the organizers of L’Chaim 2023 quickly transformed an obstacle into an opportunity.

Last week, the organizers received the unfortunate news that Jennifer Grey, the much-anticipated featured speaker, would not be able to attend due to unforeseen personal circumstances. Moving quickly, they found a replacement speaker who should inspire and unite the community at a time when it is needed the most.

“In the wake of the horrifying events in Israel and the unnerving aftermath that is still unfolding, it was time to turn to one of the clearest, most powerful voices for Israel,” wrote co-chairs Marcy Cornfeld, Caroline Goldenberg and Lisa Warticovschi in an email to members of the Women’s Philanthropy Community.

The voice they found is that of Noa Tishby.

“Tishby, the former Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of Israel for Combating Antisemitism and Delegitimizing Israel is the epitome of what we as Jews value most: bravery, justice, and community,” the co-chairs wrote about Tishby.

Noa Tishby

Noa Tishby is an Israeli American performing artist, producer, author and activist whose journey is one of remarkable resilience and achievement. From her roots in Tel Aviv, where she served in the Israeli army, to becoming a household name with starring roles in Israeli television, Tishby’s life was already a testament to courage and determination.

But it was her transformative work in the entertainment industry, including selling the Israeli TV show “In Treatment” to HBO and earning Emmy, Golden Globe, Writers Guild and Peabody awards, which showcased her ability to bridge cultures and create understanding through storytelling.

Tishby’s commitment to her heritage and her tireless efforts in advocating for Israel led her to found “Act for Israel,” Israel’s first online advocacy organization. Her passion for dispelling misconceptions about Israel culminated in her authoring “Israel: A Simple Guide to the Most Misunderstood Country on Earth.”

“Noa will be the inspiration we can all use,” wrote the co-chairs.
