Marian Ruth Hutnick, July 1, 2026, in Belleville, IL
Cherished and devoted wife of Melroy B. Hutnick. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Beil. Dear relative and friend of many.
After graduating from University City High School, Marian earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University and began a career as a Spanish teacher at Pattonville High School in St. Louis County, where she inspired students for many years. During that time, she enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and Mexico, experiences that reflected her love of language, culture, and learning.
Marian married the love of her life, Mel, in August 1971, and together they made their home in Belleville, Illinois. There, she devoted herself to education, the arts, and community service. Working alongside Joan Renner, she helped bring art exhibitions to the City of Belleville, enriching the cultural life of the community. She also volunteered in the library at Memorial Hospital and served on the hospital’s Scholarship Committee. A dedicated supporter of civic organizations, Marian was actively involved with the Belleville Rotary Club and the Belleville Chamber of Commerce. She continued her passion for teaching as a faculty member at McKendree College and Belleville Area College, where she shared her knowledge and love of learning with generations of students.

Marian and Mel shared a love of travel and created many cherished memories together. They traveled to England and explored destinations throughout the United States, including Jackson, Wyoming; Santa Fe, New Mexico; New Orleans, Louisiana; Charleston, South Carolina; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Houston, Texas; and Orlando, Florida.
Together, they were devoted to the training and showing of purebred dogs, including Bichon Frises, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and Papillons, through the Belle City Kennel Club. Marian also had a lifelong love of horses, especially Thoroughbreds and horse racing. Among her favorite experiences were the many visits she and Mel made to the renowned horse farms of Lexington, Kentucky.
