Our 2023 Unsung Hero Elizabeth “Betty” Baumgartner‘s story continues to inspire.

Baumgartner, a Dual Language Teacher at Dorris Intermediate School in Collinsville, Illinois was recognized by the St. Louis Jewish Light after she saw a student give a Nazi salute in class. Instead of punishing the student, she turned the situation into a teaching moment and gave her students a lesson about the history of the Holocaust.

The story sparked the interest of KMOX’s Megan Lynch, who recently interviewed Baumgartner. The interview is now published, and you can listen to it in full here.
