This upcoming Sunday, Jan. 14, will mark 100 days since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. A special ceremony “Standing Together – STL Marks 100 Days Since Oct. 7” is planned to take place starting at 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center’s Staenberg Family Complex.

The Israeli American Council (IAC) and the J are presenting this program to the wide community. All are invited, but registration is required.

100 days since the Oct. 7

“The decision to mark 100 days since Oct. 7th was made in the importance of remembering and honoring the victims of these tragic events and still held in Hamas’ captivity,” said Snir Dagan, a native Israeli who currently works as the Israeli engagement coordinator at the J and is helping organize the event with Orna Dar, the IAC program manager in St. Louis. “All over the world, Jewish and Israeli communities will mark and mention this day through ceremonies, commemoration events, and rallies. We invite the community to share their grief and solidarity and to stand strongly with us on this unbearable milestone.”

The ceremony will pay tribute to Gili Adar z”l, a beloved counselor at Camp Ben Frankel in the summer of 2017. She was among the 260 Israelis who attended a music festival near Gaza and were murdered by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7. She was 24.

“Gili has a special place in everyone’s heart in the St. Louis Jewish and Israeli community. She spent her last hours at the Nova party, celebrating life and enjoying with her friends,” said Dar. “We felt like it was appropriate to pay her a special tribute since she was an integral part of many families’ Jewish and Israeli life here in St. Louis.”

Gili’s parents, Orna and Eldad, will join the ceremony via Zoom to share their memories.

Following the ceremony, “#Nova,” a film documenting the tragic events of the Oct. 7 attack on the Supernova music festival, will be screened along with a special message from the film’s director, Dan Pe’er, for the St. Louis community.
“We will be the first U.S. state to officially screen the movie, and we are very grateful for this opportunity,” said Dagan. “This movie compiles footage and videos from the smartphones of concertgoers, providing a chronological account of the events that took place on that dark Shabbat. The film is a portrayal of the fear and terror experienced by the young men and women present, with their will to survive and the resilience of life.”
