Walter Weiss is used to strangers noticing his car. His gray Infiniti bears a license plate that reads MZL-TOV.

“It seemed like a good idea to get the plates,” said Weiss, 93. “Everybody asks me about the message. Some people who may not be Jewish ask me what it means, so I explain it.” Weiss got the personalized plates about 20 years ago. They were his first choice, and luckily nobody else had claimed the word.

The Jewish Light previously featured seven other Missouri personalized plates that borrowed Yiddish words or Jewish cultural messages.

A quick check on the Missouri Department of Revenue website inexplicably that the words KVETCH, SHVITZ and LATKES are available.
