Maya Newman becomes bat mitzvah

Maya+Newman+becomes+bat+mitzvah

Maya Janet Newman, daughter of Margo and Drew Newman of Creve Coeur became a bat mitzvah on Nov. 18, 2023, at Congregation Shaare Emeth.

Maya is the granddaughter of Stacey and Burt (z”l) Newman of St. Louis, Janet Fishman Newman (z”l) of St. Louis, and Alice and David Gantz of Rockville, Md. She has one sibling, Joshua Newman, who is 10.

Maya is a seventh-grade student at Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School. For Maya’s mitzvah project, she collected new socks to help bring a little warmth, coziness and love to patient families at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. During her speech, Maya shared that when she was a baby, she spent some time in the hospital and her parents were those people who needed a little extra love and support — and so this was her way of paying it forward.
