Bridge Bread Bakery celebrated the opening of its second location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 616 N. Skinker Blvd. in the University City Loop.
The nonprofit bakery provides employment, job training and housing assistance to people experiencing homelessness. St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer attended the ribbon-cutting event that officially marked the opening. The new site is located about a half-block east of the boundary between University City and the city of St. Louis.
“It’s an honor to be here and to continue to watch this great organization expand and serve our community,” Spencer said.
Founder Fred Domke said the Loop location came with one clear expectation: bagels.
“When I told Joe Edwards [the Loop businessman who owns Blueberry Hill] we were going to open here, he said we needed to have bagels,” Domke said.
