For nearly two decades, the Gentile Ministry—a Pacific, Mo.-based coalition of Baptist pastors and their congregations—has openly supported newly formed security and Israel Defense Forces associated units in Israel. Through a network of relationships they’ve built over the years, the ministry has provided critical resources to enhance the safety and capabilities of Israel’s defenders.
“Our work is rooted in commands found in scripture,” said Dr. Bryan Sharp, founder of Gentile Ministry. “As Gentiles, we’ve benefited so much from the words of the Jewish writers, and we’re called to bless the Jewish people, speak kindly to and about them, and provide for their needs. It’s a way to honor that connection and stand with them in meaningful ways.”
A legacy of aid in Jerusalem
One example of the Gentile Ministry’s dedication to IDF units is its decade-long support of a Jerusalem-based unit.
“They needed supplies to track terrorists and rescue young Jewish women who had been kidnapped,” Sharp said. “We gladly stepped in to provide what they needed and have continued to support them ever since.”
Joining forces for an urgent need
Now, the ministry is stepping up again. Several weeks ago, Sharp learned through his contacts in Israel about a newly formed battalion of 500 IDF reservists preparing for deployment to southern Lebanon. The reservists were in need of warm jackets and other protective clothing to face the harsh winter conditions. Sharp reached out to Shaving Israel, a St. Louis-based volunteer organization founded by Holocaust survivor Rachel Miller, which supports IDF soldiers by providing essential personal items and supplies.
Winter gear funded by shared commitment
The Shaving Israel board unanimously voted to allocate thousands of dollars for warm jackets, gloves, hats, and other protective clothing—all sourced from Israeli suppliers. Upon hearing of the decision, Sharp pledged to match Shaving Israel’s commitment with funds from the Gentile Ministry, contributing nearly dollar for dollar to meet the battalion’s needs.
“I cannot say enough good things about Reverend Sharp and Gentile Ministry,” said Laura Goldmeier, Shaving Israel president. “They have always done an outstanding job in getting needed supplies to IDF personnel. In this instance, we were able to send everything the battalion requested. Gentile Ministry is a true friend to Israel and the Jewish people.”
A grateful battalion
The battalion has already received the winter gear and expressed their gratitude.
“They were very happy with the clothing we sent,” Goldmeier said. “We received a short video thanking us in Hebrew, and we’re hoping to get a message in English soon. Understandably, the battalion is very busy right now.”
