Two resolutions supporting Israel advanced in the Missouri legislature this week. House Continuing Resolution 30 passed in the House of Representatives on May 6 by a vote of 108 to 8. Another 22 house members voted “present.” The resolution, known as HCR 30, expresses support for Israel and recognizes its special relationship with the United States.
HCR 30 states in part “Be it resolved that that the General Assembly supports Israel’s right to exist and recognizes Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel.” The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Dean Plocher, R-St. Louis County, was discussed by the House Public Policy Committee during a February 6 hearing which students from Epstein Hebrew Academy and Torah Prep attended.
A companion resolution in the Missouri Senate, SCR 24, states in part “Be it resolved that the General Assembly supports Israel’s inalienable right to prosecute the war until the threat posed by Hamas and other terrorist organizations is eradicated, with the hope for a swift and just resolution to the conflict.” The resolution was sponsored by Sen. Mary Elizabeth Coleman, R-Jefferson City.
SCR 24 is the subject of a May 8 hearing by the House Special Committee on Public Policy. The final day of the 2024 legislation session is May 17.
