Noma Simon, November 26, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Noma Simon on November 26th, 2024, after her brave two-year battle with cancer. Noma was the loving mother of Michael (Holly) and Carolyn (Scott Nichols), the adoring grandmother of Juliana and Liya Simon, Douglas Dieckgraefe (Tori), Haley Clark (Luke), and the doting great-grandmother of Claire, Shepherd and Hope Dieckgraefe, and Lennie and June Clark.
Noma was born on Nov 14, 1935, joining her beloved brother Edward Balk as the children of Eva and Jack Balk. She grew up in University City in a loving household and a tightly connected Jewish community, and her extraordinary devotion to family and friends was evident every day of her life. She loved nothing more than seeing her family gather together over a festive meal. She was incredibly generous, willing to help any family member in need with no strings attached. She sustained amazingly close and meaningful friendships, whether those friendships were formed in elementary school, high school, college, or as part of married life.
Noma had a deeply loving 52-year marriage to her husband, Arthur, who passed away in 2010. They were devoted partners in all aspects of life—at home, in their active social life, and through Arthur’s work. She was an invaluable counselor to Arthur on all of his homebuilding projects, from decisions about real estate investments to picking out light fixtures and carpeting in model homes.
Three years after Arthur passed, Noma had the great fortune to meet Robert Stone, himself recently widowed. Together they created a wonderful second chapter for themselves, ultimately moving to Clayton and having a committed 11-year relationship with the kind of love that neither had expected to have again.
