How long have you worked in the Jewish community?
I started as a volunteer for the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum in 2018 when I was in graduate school. In July 2020, I joined the staff of the museum full time.
In one or two sentences, can you explain your job?
As the communications and social media manager for the St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum, I oversee all external communications for the museum. As part of my job, I develop and implement strategies for social media, advertising, email marketing, digital communication and more.
What sparked your interest in the Holocaust?
When I was in middle school, I learned about the Holocaust rescuer Carl Lutz (no relation). He used to live in St. Louis and was responsible for the largest civilian rescue mission of the entire Holocaust. I started studying his story and wider Holocaust history and never stopped.
Can you tell us a little about the place where you grew up?
I was born in Lenexa, Kan. and grew up in Atchison, Kan. – the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. In fact, my legal name is Amelia. I even wrote my graduate thesis on Amelia Earhart and the various theories surrounding her disappearance.
What are you looking most forward to this summer?
Recently, I actually officiated a wedding in Georgia for two close friends of mine. I was grateful to be part of their important day. My birthday is June 25th, and I’m excited to celebrate with friends in person this year.
What excites you most about the new Holocaust museum set to open in 2022?
Everything! I love how central the stories of St. Louis Holocaust survivors are to the new museum – it makes ours a very unique institution. I’m also really excited that the expanded museum, filled with state-of-the-art technology and exciting exhibits, will reach even more visitors and be a community resource for St. Louis, the state of Missouri and beyond.
