Rep’s Steve Woolf to direct NJT show

The New Jewish Theatre has announced that Steve Woolf, Artistic Director of the Repertory Theatre, will direct NJT’s production of Clifford Odet’s 1935 classic “Awake and Sing!”
While Woolf does direct outside of the Rep, he does not typically direct for other theaters in the St. Louis area. Most recently outside of the Rep, he directed “The Diary of Anne Frank” at the Arrow Rock Lyceum Theatre (and then went on to direct the Rep’s production of the same show).
“Awake and Sing!” is a “kitchen sink drama” depicting social realism through the domestic situation of a working-class Jewish family living in a crowded tenement apartment in the Bronx during the Great Depression.
Actors include Aaron Orion Baker, Gary Wayne Barker, Jason Cannon, Julie Layton, Terry Meddows, Bobby Miller, Jordan Reinwald, Elizabeth Townsend and Jerry Vogel. The production will run from April 20 to May 8 with performances on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. performance on May 1. Tickets are available at www.newjewishtheatre.org or by calling 314-442-3283.
