Back in May, the Jewish Light told you: If anyone, or in this case, any two, are up to the challenge of asking members of the St. Louis Jewish community to donate to Jewish Federation’s Annual Campaign, it’s Galia Movitz and Janie Roodman Weiss, this year’s co-chairs. Together, they make a formidable fundraising team; neither likes taking “no” for an answer.
Support the Jewish Federation’s 100 ‘Days of Impact’
Now, Movitz and Weiss are launching the Federation’s 2024 “100 Days of Impact” campaign, a critical effort to strengthen and support the Jewish community in St. Louis and beyond. In an email to the community, they explained the importance of this year’s mission: “The tragic events of Oct. 7 in Israel have reminded us of the urgent need for solidarity and support. Rising antisemitism threatens the safety and well-being of Jews around the world, including right here in St. Louis. These challenges are not abstract — they are personal, and they affect each of us deeply.”
Strengthening the St. Louis Jewish community
For over 120 years, the Federation has been a cornerstone of Jewish life in St. Louis, providing resources for education, social services, and global aid. Last year’s campaign raised $7.35 million, with 74% of that directed to local programs and 26% supporting Jewish partners in Israel and around the world.
This year, the Federation aims to surpass that by mobilizing over 100 leaders to engage with the community. The response to their Israel Emergency Campaign alone raised an additional $4.5 million.
Over the next 100 days, Movitz and Weiss will share stories from the Federation’s partner agencies, showing how donations are changing lives and inspiring action. “This campaign is about participation, and every gift counts,” they said. “Our community’s strength comes from each of us stepping up and doing our part.”
Movitz and Weiss say they’re confident that with the community united, this campaign will not only meet but exceed its goals, ensuring a strong, vibrant future for Jewish St. Louis.
After all, as they like to say, they don’t take “no” for an answer.
