Pop culture and Jewish history intersect in a new documentary special airing on Jewish Life Television (JLTV). The documentary, titled JEWCE: The Jewish Comics Experience, explores the profound contributions of Jewish creators to the comic book industry. Produced in partnership with The Center for Jewish History and TurnKey Pictures, the 30-minute special will premiere on Oct. 15.
Through historical narratives and rare interviews, JEWCE shines a light on iconic figures such as Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the Jewish creators of Superman, and their role in shaping comic books and superheroes. The documentary also delves into how Jewish themes of social justice, identity and perseverance are woven into these larger-than-life characters.
“We are proud and excited to bring this important documentary to life,” said Dr. Gavriel Rosenfeld, President of the Center for Jewish History. “The history of Jewish creators in the world of comics has long been an untold story, and we are able to highlight their extraordinary contributions to both American culture and the global imagination.”
