Mitzvot from the Heart: Benjamin Levine

Compiled by Elise Krug

Benjamin Levine, Congregation Shaare Emeth

Benjamin Levine admired the volunteer work his mother did and felt such sympathy for those in dire states of physical distress. Son of Janice and David Levine of Chesterfield, he decided to follow in her footsteps for his mitzvah project.

He volunteered at the Brain Injury Association and the Multiple Sclerosis Society, two organizations that are effective in addressing the needs of people with MS and brain injuries. At the BIA, Brian worked alongside someone with a brain injury and helped put together packets of information for the public. At the MS Society, he helped to compile information for upcoming MS events. He also assisted with a mailing to educate people about MS and sent thank you letters to donors.

A student at Parkway Central Middle School, Brian felt benevolent because of his good deeds. He felt that the volunteering helped him connect with physically disabled people while having a good time as well.
