Jessica Goldberg received the 2019 Jewish War Veterans – Charles Sandroff Scholarship. The scholarship is given each year by the Jewish War Veterans Post 644 to an outstanding high school graduate entering college. Jessica is the daughter of Nancy and Glenn Goldberg and is a freshman at Purdue University. The family attends Congregation Shaare Emeth. 

RubinBrown partner and CPA Steven Brown was named vice chairman of the firm. In this role, he will work directly with the chairman on strategic opportunities, governance matters and recruiting high level talent to the firm. Brown attends Congregation B’nai Amoona.

Carla Freiman Feuer joined AXEL as its business development manager. Her responsibilities are to develop opportunities to expand the service reach of the company throughout the Missouri Bi-State region. AXEL is a transportation provider for the logistics needs of healthcare and education institutions. Feuer is a member of Congregation Temple Israel.

Denise Lieberman was honored by the St. Louis City NAACP with the Ina M. Boon Social Justice Award. The award recognizes individuals who have devoted their time and energy to make a significant contribution to advance peace, civil rights, education, public health, environmental justices or social justice issues that impact the lives and life of St. Louis citizens. Lieberman is the director of Advancement Project’s Power and Democracy Program and a senior attorney. She works to identify and remove systemic barriers to voting. 

Robert Blitz, founding member of Blitz, Bardgett, & Deutsch, was among those lawyers honored with a Missouri Lawyers Weekly ICON Award. This award is presented to lawyers age 60 and older in recognition of their notable and sustained success and leadership both within and beyond the field of law. 

Jan Baron recently joined the Jewish Community Center’s Early Childhood Family Center as the assistant to the director. She assists with the planning of programs, such as Tour de Fun, for young children and their families in collaboration with community day schools, preschools and congregations. Baron is a member of B’nai Amoona. 

Nusach Hari B’nai Zion congregant and University of Missouri-St. Louis computer science student Joshua John is the newest recipient of the NHBZ-UMSL Scholarship. The scholarship has been awarded the past five years with funding from Susan Feigenbaum, UMSL Professor Emeritus of Economics and her husband Dr. Jay Pepose. John is pursuing a bachelor’s and master’s degree through UMSL’s integrated BS/MS dual-degree program.

The following teens have been elected president of their Jewish youth groups:

• Jonah Boyer, B’nai Amoona’s United Synagogue Youth (USY), son of Marci and Martin Boyer. Jonah is a senior at Whitfield School. 

• Yael Portman, Kol Rinah’s USY, daughter of Molly and Alan Portman. Yael is a senior at University City High School.

• Joseph Rosenberg, United Hebrew’s North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY), son of Rabbi Brigitte and Lee Rosenberg. He is a junior at Parkway West. 

• NFTY’s Missouri Valley Region elected its new officers. Blair Dubinsky, daughter of Karen Dubinsky and Ken and Amy Dubinsky was elected president. Blair is a senior at Parkway Central. Josh Heiman, son of Cathy and Sam Heiman and a junior at Parkway Central, was elected social action vice president. Alexis Baumgarten, daughter of Melika and Mark Baumgarten, is the new membership vice president. She is also a junior at Parkway Central. All three attend United Hebrew. 

Former St. Louisan Rabbi Michael Satz, is the new rabbi at Temple B’nai Or in Morristown, N.J.  

Libby Goldman recently founded SaddleUp Social Media. Her services include helping small companies create and maintain their business Facebook pages.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States has named Harvey Tettlebaum, partner at Husch Blackwell, to its advisory committee. He will serve as one of 17 members; the only one from Missouri. Based in Husch Blackwell’s Jefferson City office, Tettlebaum specializes in healthcare law. 

After 10 years as the executive director of Ready Readers, Lisa Greening started a chapter of the National Campaign for Grade Level Reading in St. Louis. Called Turn the Page STL, this city-county-wide initiative works to improve proficiency in reading by the end of third grade. Youthbridge is providing support to Turn the Page STL through a Think Big for Kids grant as well as office and meeting space. Greening attends Central Reform Congregation.

Emilie Docter Fan was promoted to senior associate director of development for the Brown School at Washington University. She oversees the annual fund, works with alumni to engage them in the school and encourages philanthropic support. Fan is a member of Temple Israel.

Bruce Bernstein and Lecie Steinbaum were among the six honored by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly magazine as St. Louis Best Bosses. Bernstein is president and owner of Sunshine Drapery and attends Shaare Emeth. Steinbaum, a member of Temple Israel, is the chief operating office of Cornerstone Employers Solutions.

Midwest Special Needs Trust (MSNT) presented retired attorney, Jerry Zafft with the inaugural Jerry Zafft Award at its 30^th anniversary celebration. Named for the organization’s visionary founder, the award honors individuals who exhibit dedication to helping persons with disabilities and their families through activism, volunteerism and other forms of public service. MSNT administers special needs trusts for people with disabilities and protects important public benefits such as Medicaid. Zafft is a member of B’nai Amoona.

Alice Handelman was honored by National Federation of Press Women for an article on physical health printed in 2018 in the Ladue News. She was awarded second place nationally for her feature on Earnest Hart Jr., a four-time world class martial arts champion. Handelman attends Temple Israel. 

Recent college graduate Isabella Gross is the new product coordinator for the BZees brand at Caleris. She is responsible for creating product sketches and graphic illustrations of BZees, assist in preparation for shoe shows and sales presentations, and correspond with the different departments regarding product needs. 

Martha Kreipke has been elected to serve a second term as president of St. Louis Classical Guitar. Along with presenting six annual classical guitar concerts, SLCG offers Guitar Horizons Education Program, which provides the resources necessary for building and sustaining a thriving guitar program in local schools, mainly in North County and St. Louis City. Kreipke attends Temple Israel.

Daryl Rothman’s book, “The Awakening of David Rose,” first in a series of three, will be released Sept. 9. It is a young adult fantasy novel about a 15-year old boy who in search for truth, unlocks the door to a dark, new world and awakens a sinister plot centuries in the making. 

On Aug. 23, CRC honored seven volunteers at its Heart & Soul Awards, which recognizes individuals who work quietly, humbly and genuinely.  The volunteers are: Myrrah Gill, CRC Mitzvah Garden; Mandy Hertz, chair of the CRC Trivia Night; Mel Goldman, Room at the Inn and CRC head Shabbat greeter; Linda Riekes, The Nest; Dawn Goldstein, Room at the Inn; Lisa Huxley, front desk office; Judy Glaser, challah maker and Mitzvah Farm.
