Flora Cassen has released a new book, “Stained Glass: A Reflective History of Antisemitism.”
It traces a Jewish life shaped by family and history, moving between medieval Europe to the aftermath of the Holocaust and into the present.
The book asks what it means to leave Europe behind and to encounter in American Jewish life a vitality that is beautiful yet never fully settled.
Cassen is an associate professor of Jewish, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at Washington University and the Lavine Family director of the Brandeis Center for Jewish Studies.
She is a member of Central Reform Congregation.
