Ladue incident deserved coverage
I always thought the St. Louis Jewish Light was the “voice” of the St. Louis Jewish community. So when a student at Ladue Horton Watkins High Schools shared a poster that she made in school on her social media platforms, featuring a burning American and Israeli flag and referenced “Palestine,” I would have thought the Jewish Light would be the first media outlet covering the story.
I would have thought the Light would investigate the school to ensure this seemingly anti-Semitic post was not supported or sponsored by the teacher whose classroom the poster was created in and the social media post came from.
I would have expected the Light to have investigated to see if Jewish high school students were safe in this school or if there were threats of anti-Semitic attacks against them. I would have expected the Light to have reported the incident as part of the growing anti-Semitism we are seeing in the United States of America right now.
I would have expected the Light to have made mention of the Ladue school’s social media response and internal investigation. I would have expected the Jewish Light to have been the ‘voice’ of the St. Louis Jewish community, however, there was not a single mention online or in print of this incident in our community affecting the Jewish students at Ladue Horton Watkins High School.
