Letter to the editor: Women left out in commentary roundup
Published April 6, 2011
Why I continue to be surprised when The St. Louis Jewish Light seeks community viewpoints only from men is beyond me. After all, it is 2011, not 1911; women do have the vote, are educated, own businesses, raise families and are as capable of having an opinion as men. Women comprise half the population, and there are smart Jewish women with educated, informed opinions that the Light could have contacted. To add insult to injury, the Light’s editor, Ellen Futterman, just happens to be a smart, intelligent, professional journalist.
The article “War in Libya: which path should we take?” by Robert A. Cohn, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, states, “Because the views in the Jewish community are so diverse on the subject of Libya, the Jewish Light asked several members of our community to offer their own views…” The members were all male, and the only diversity I could find might have been their age.
