William Lee “Bill” Nussbaum passed away on January 12, 2024 in Pompano Beach, FL at the age of 83. He is survived by his sister Betty Kerman, and his 2 children: William Lee Nussbaum, Jr. (Glenn McQuaid), and Linda Beth Nussbaum (J Swofford).
Bill was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, son of Howard E. Nussbaum and Hope Levy Nussbaum. He attended University City High School, received his AB from Princeton University and his JD from Washington University. He served for 3 years in the US Navy, after which he returned to his hometown of St. Louis.
He was actively involved in several local organizations throughout the years. He served on the board of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, was treasurer of the board for Food Outreach (as well as a dutiful dishwasher most Sundays for years), and served a term as president at Temple Emanuel. After moving to Pompano Beach, FL in 2005 he joined the Ft. Lauderdale Bridge Club and Quick Tricks bridge club, where he served as treasurer of the board until late 2023, and became an integral part of that community.
In addition to his love of playing bridge, Bill was an eager and avid traveler. Whether visiting his kids in NY and Portland, spending summers with his sister in Colorado and volunteering regularly at the BRAVO! music series in Vail, or making his way on adventures to Southeast Asia and cruising just about everywhere across the globe, he always had another trip planned on the horizon.
A passionate traveler, collector of art, and raconteur, Bill’s vivid tales and love for the arts left lasting impressions. May his memory be a blessing.
