With great sorrow, we share that Steve Sosnoff, of 20 Dautel Circle, passed away on Thursday, August 28th, 2025. Steve was the beloved son of Sally and Gary Sosnoff, brother of Joan (Neil), Uncle of David Okun (Megan) and Sarah Okun Cox (Jonathan), Great-Uncle of Nora, Maeve, Authur, and Theo.
Born on April 24th, 1955, Steve grew up in University City and in Creve Coeur, and was a lifetime member of the United Hebrew Congregation. He began working at Lafayette-West Workshop soon after high school. In his late twenties, Steve and his family explored options for him to move out of the family home, and they chose the St. Louis Arc. His mother and father were deeply involved in the launch of the Dautel Circle Community and Promise Community Homes, sparking Steve’s lifelong interest in advocacy for people with disabilities. On many occasions, he spoke with state legislators, community groups, and ID/DD organizations to express the importance of choice, independence, community living, and the rights of disabled people.
A person of strong convictions, Steve strove throughout his life to make choices for himself, to be as independent as possible. He remained incredibly close to his family, and they supported one another despite the physical distance between the family branches.
Steve found love with Debbie Tompson in his twenties, and they remained committed to each other for over forty years. They have shared many vacations, dates, quiet times at home, and endless hours on the telephone. They weathered all seasons of life together, including jobs, moves, and health challenges, all while celebrating the love they shared. Steve and Debbie also shared many interests, including westerns, superheroes, Star Trek, and Everybody Loves Raymond. As a young man, he enjoyed walking all over town with his girlfriend, working, and spending time with his family. The caring, professional staff at Dautel Circle supported Steve for forty-four years, both as a young man and as he aged. Many staff members had been by his side for over ten years.
Throughout his life, Steve made an immeasurable impact on the people who knew him. We ask that you keep Debbie, Steve’s family, support team, and friends in your thoughts as they grieve the loss of Steve. He was laid to rest on September 2nd, 2025, with graveside services at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road, Chesterfield, MO, 63017. BERGER MEMORIAL
