Stanley “Stan” Edelstein, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at the age of 94.
Born in St. Louis on October 18, 1930, Stanley lived a life dedicated to his three loves-family, politics, and tennis. He was graduated from University City High School in 1948. He went on to Washington University (graduated 1952) where he majored in accounting and was in Phi Eta Sigma freshman honor society as well as Omicron Delta Gamma, an economics honor society, and ZBT fraternity.
A lifelong St Louis resident and an avid Cardinals fan, Stan cared deeply about participating and giving back to his local community. He served as president of the Creve Coeur Democratic Club for 10 years. In addition, he also gave his time to the Creve Coeur finance committee and pension board for many years. In 2012 he was recognized for his service by membership in the Creve Coeur Squires.
For 64 years, he was the devoted husband of Susan (Gittelman) Edelstein. He was the proud father of Wendy Edelstein, and Leslie Bursack (Brian) and a deeply cherished grandfather to Hannah, Katie, and Brynne Bursack. Each of them carries forward his values of loyalty, family, and humor. He was the beloved brother of Alan Edelstein (Maravene) and brother-in-law Herbert Gittleman (Jacqueline). Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Lilian and Al Edelstein.
The family extends deep gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff at Parc Provence and Bethesda Hospice who gave unstinting care to Stan.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Central Reform Congregation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Stan’s memory be made to the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry or the Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL, 36104.
