Semon Frelich

Semon Frelich, died August 31, 2014 at age 92 in St. Louis. Beloved widower of Joan Joy Frelich; loving father of Bette (Bill), Jim (Heather), Steve (Kelly) and Jeff; proud grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of ten; dear brother of Maxine. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, in 1922, son of the late David and Selina Frelich. He spent his life in St. Louis after moving here as an infant. He graduated from Washington University and served his country in WWII, surviving the horrific Battle of Peleliu. He worked in his family dress business and met his wife Joan on a blind date. He was 30 minutes late and she wasn’t happy, but when she opened the door and he shyly apologized, all was forgiven. They married 6 months later and spent 55 wonderful years together before Joanie passed in 2008. He was a lifelong Cardinals fan, up to his final days in Hospice when he would always ask how the Cardinals were doing. He survived colon cancer in 1978, the same year he, his wife and three boys opened up Shoe Stop. He worked in the stores until his late 80s, always closing the sale with his sincere line, “hope you wear them in good health.” He enjoyed a lifetime of exercise and began jogging before most ever knew what it was. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Rindskopf-Roth
