Robert Friedman

Robert Friedman, died September 6, 2011 at age 92. Born November 21st, 1918 to the late Harry and the late Dora (Fink) Friedman; father of Gary and Vicki (Moses) Friedman of St. Louis, and Ken and Beth (Maurer) Friedman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; grandson Scott Friedman with his wife, Sara (Ehrlich) Friedman, and their daughter, Ada; granddaughter Sara (Friedman) Levine with her husband, Ben Levine, and their son Eliot; grandson Martin Friedman and granddaughter Leah Friedman. In his teen years he was a national debating champion for the AZA, and later graduated from Washington University, as well as from the law school. He served his country for more than three years in the Army, with duty in the Pacific theater. he was also a reporter for the Stars and Stripes Friedman’s literary life continued as an occasional book reviewer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Like his immigrant father, he was a successful businessman, transforming with his partners, AA Importing Company from a modest business into a national concern. Not one to be idle in his retirement, he mentored area youth, studied the history of editorial cartooning, and shared his knowledge through many area presentations. He was most proud of his literary pursuits, having written numerous plays, many of which have been performed nationally as well as authoring the book “Playwright Power.” He served several terms as President of the Missouri Association of Playwrights.
