Raymond Jacob Pultman

Raymond Jacob Pultman died October 5, 2016.

Beloved husband of Jacqueline Kagan Pultman for 63 years; dear father of Paula Kessler, Brian (Mindy Komen) Pultman, and Andrew (Mimi Silberman) Pultman; loving grandfather of Dustin Kessler, Sydney and Samuel Pultman, Caleb and Chase Pultman; beloved son of the late Anna and the late William Pultman; dear brother of the late Isadore and the late Martin (Shirley) Pultman; our dear uncle, cousin and friend.

Ray graduated from Soldan High School in 1942. A year later, he was drafted into the US Army and served with an engineering company in New Guinea, the Philippines, Japan and Australia.

After his Army service, he attended Washington University where he majored in architecture.  Ray joined his family’s hat business in 1950 as a “road drummer,” selling the Pultman caps to wholesalers across the Eastern part of the country.  Pultman’s family hat business, which began in 1928 by his father and two uncles, devoted  over 50 years to Correct Cap Company.  Ray was known as “The Hat Man”.

Raymond has been deeply involved in Scouting for over 80 years.  Served as a Scout Master of Troop 366 and a committee member of Troop 11, helping young boys mature into responsible adults. Both of Ray’s sons are Eagle Scouts. Ray was awarded one of the highest awards offered to an adult leader, The Silver Beaver, for his distinguished service and exceptional character.

Graveside service, Friday, October 7th, 10 AM at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery, 9125 Ladue Road, St. Louis, MO 63124. Memorial contributions preferred to Camp Pultman/Troop 11. Checks made payable to Camp Pultman/Troop 11 can be mailed to Temple Israel, # 1 Rabbi Alvan D. Rubin Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141.
