Norman Appelman, January 16, 2022.

He was 95 years old. Beloved son of the late Isadore and Alice (Schevack), Appelman;  Dear Husband of the late Anita Rae (Roodman) Appelman.  Twin brother of the late Melvin Appelman. Identical twins, who continually shared their daily life experiences.  They served their country together in World War II as instructors in the U.S. Army Air Force Cryptographic Division. Mr. Appelman is survived by two sons.  His eldest Alan, wife Cyndy, their daughter Terra, and his younger son Dr. Edward Appelman.

Norman Appelman began working part time in 1941 during high school and after his military service in 1947 spent 7 years in public accounting. Next in the finance area as Treasurer of both Midland Finance Company and then of U.S. Life Credit Company until joining ITT Financial company as Director of Treasury Operations. In 2001 he joined Commerce Bank as First Vice President, Treasury Services where he worked until 2016 at the age of 90.

Mr. Appelman was a founder of the St. Louis Treasury Management Association where he served as Conference Chair and then as President. He was a founder of the Association for Financial Professionals, Washington, D.C. where he served as Chairman, Board member for seven years, and twice as Director Government Relations. During that time, he presented at the Federal Reserve’s International Symposium on Payment Systems in D.C. hosted by Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and attended by the Central Bankers of the industrialized world.

Mr. Appelman was very active with law enforcement agencies. He was a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy and a founder of its Alumni Association, a member of the FBI Citizens Academy and a founder of its Alumni Association, a member of the FBI sponsored InfraGard, a graduate of the Chesterfield Police Citizens Academy, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Citizens Academy, and was a Certified Member of the West County Citizens Emergency Response Team.

His goal in life was to remain productive to society and to the business world.

Funeral service Thursday, January 20, 2022, 1:30 PM at Berger Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Blvd 63132. Visitation from 1:00 to time of service. Burial will be private.  Memorial contributions preferred to a charity of your choice.    Visit bergermemorialchapel.com for information.
