Morty Golder, died August 23, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born in 1938 in University City to Anne and Meyer Golder and attended University City High School. After high school he went to the University of Missouri undergraduate and Law school. In 1960 he married Beverly Kaufman and at the time of his death, they were married for over 50 years. After law school Morty began his law career in the County Counselor’s office. After several years there he entered private practice in the law firm Susman, Schermer, Willer and Parker, based in Clayton. In his private practice he specialized in real estate and business law. He would take client calls at all hours of the night, weekends and on vacation. After many years in private practice he was recruited to UniGroup, the parent company of United Van Lines as General Counsel. At United Van Lines he was general counsel from 1985-1994, and 1999-2001. In 1994 he took a sabbatical from the legal department and was president of another Unigroup company: Vanliner, the moving insurance company. He was a great father, and tireless friend to so many people. Although politically conservative, he was very generous with his time and money, as I said at the funeral, “like a liberal democrat.” He is survived by his wife, Bev of 51 years and his children, Dr. Robert Golder, Steve (Jill) Golder and Jay (Melissa) Golder, and six grandchildren.
