Marcia was a native St. Louisan who graduated from University City High School and Washington University, where she met the love of her life, her Eldon, while studying in Ridgley Library. She earned degrees in Elementary Education and English and became a dedicated teacher in the Ferguson-Florissant School District up until she became a mother. Marcia’s parenting reflected the high value she placed on education. Friday night dinners began with Eldon, Marcia, Andy, and Amy each bringing an unusual vocabulary word to the table in an effort to stump the others. Her tireless commitment to education trickled down to the next generation. When her grandchildren were infants, she sang songs to them about the alphabet, shapes, numbers, and zoo animals and read them books meant for preschoolers.
Marcia loved to cook and bake for her family and always challenged herself. From mastering light and airy meringue to perfect paella, she was undaunted by difficult recipes. Canned goods and box mixes were taboo, as Marcia believed in made-from-scratch ingredients. Whether making homemade ice cream to accompany her pies or creating savory beef stock for a sauce or gravy, Marcia’s ambitious cooking yielded meals for her family full of flavor, comfort, and personality. She loved to watch cooking shows and often referred to cooking advice from Ina Garten as if they were close friends. Marcia enjoyed culinary classes at the Kitchen Conservatory and delighted in returning home to share what she learned.
The family appreciates the loving care provided by the dedicated staff at Brooking Park Skilled Nursing Center. We extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff from AccentCare Hospice of Greater St. Louis.
