LUCILLE GOFFSTEIN, August 6,1924 – September 2, 2025
Lucille “Lucy” Goffstein, born August 6, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield. She was the adored wife of the late Daniel, beloved mother of Gilburt, loving daughter of the late Sam and Rose (Merzel) Berger, and close sister of the late Ben (Joyce) Berger and the late Sarah (late Lester) Goldstein. She was 101 at the time of her death.
Lucy’s first language was Yiddish, which she spoke with pride, and it was her gauge (jokingly) of who was “really” Jewish. She grew up in a very loving home and always remembered her grandmother calling for “Lucila” to come to the school yard fence for a snack, which was almost always a banana.
She and Dan were happily married for more than 50 years and built a wonderful home and life for their son, Gilburt. After Dan’s passing in 1995, Lucy and Gilburt spent a month every year in Paris and touring the French countryside for 10 straight years.

For many years, Lucy worked at B & B Material Company, a family hardware store with four locations in the area. Many customers would ask if there was a man available to help them and she relished in surprising them with her knowledge and expertise!
Attending an event at Temple Israel, Lucy met Sanford “Skate” Weissman. While they attended Soldan High School together – and lived just blocks from each other in Indian Meadows for years – this was the first time they had ever met, connecting immediately. Lucy and Skate were loving, forever bantering companions until his death in 2023.
The true constant in Lucy’s life was her kind and cheerful disposition, which was most apparent to any and all children. They were instantly drawn to her magnetic smile and she loved being surrounded by them. Often times, people would comment that children liked Lucy more than their own parents…and she would have it no other way.
Lucy’s memory will forever be a blessing to all and she is dearly missed.
