Judith Ann (Slumpsky) Rotskoff passed away peacefully on January 24th at the age of 79. The cause was complications of the flu and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born in St. Louis, where she resided for most of her life, Judi was the beloved wife of Dr. Kenneth S. Rotskoff; devoted mother of Lori Rotskoff (Michael Canter) and Brian Rotskoff; loving grandmother of Benjamin Canter and Elijah Canter; daughter of the late Ben Slumpsky and the late Estelle Slumpsky; daughter-in-law of the late Morris Rotskoff and the late Sylvia Rotskoff; sister of Jerry Summers and sister-in-law Renee Summers, sister of Carol Truscheit and brother-in-law Wyatt Truscheit; sister-in-law of the late Linda Rotskoff; and a cherished niece, aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many.
Judi grew up in University City and met Ken while they were teenagers. They married in 1966, the beginning of a devoted partnership that lasted over 58 years. Judi attended the University of Missouri before transferring to Washington University / Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education. After a brief yet meaningful teaching career, she devoted many years to raising her children, Lori and Brian, and enjoying time with family. During the 1980s, she resumed her formal education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at UMSL, passing the C.P.A. exam, and working as a public accountant.
Judi supported many non-profit organizations, including the Jewish Federation’s Business and Professional Women’s Division and the St. Louis Zoo, where she volunteered as a docent to share her knowledge and love of animals. Once an avid tennis player, she later turned to golf, bridge and mah-jongg, enjoying countless rounds of games with cherished friends. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, baking, and knitting. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family, including her grandsons Benji and Eli, whether traveling to New York, on vacation, or hosting holiday visits in St. Louis or Florida. Judi had a smile and grace about her that would light up a room. She was a gracious, generous, compassionate woman who will be forever missed.
