In Loving Memory of Joel Frank Marion
December 9, 1946 – July 27, 2025
With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joel Frank Marion—a devoted husband, beloved father and Zaza, treasured friend, and truly gifted photographer. Joel passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by the family he so deeply cherished.
Joel served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After his service, he found his true passion behind the camera lens. Joel had a rare gift for capturing life’s most cherished moments—from weddings to quiet everyday joys. He believed photography was a way to hold on to happiness, and he made it his mission to preserve the love and laughter of others through his art. His work told the stories of countless families, and his photographs remain treasured keepsakes that span generations.

Joel was also a man of deep joy and had a genuine appreciation for life. He had an infectious sense of humor and loved nothing more than hearing/telling a good joke. He loved laughing and making others laugh as well. Gardening became a passion of his—especially cultivating his extensive and lovingly tended cactus collection, which brought him both peace and pride.
Above all, Joel was a devoted family man. He was a loyal and loving husband to Carol Marion, nee Hoyt, and a wonderful father to Stefani Jacobsmeyer, nee Marion (Brian), Corey Marion, Karen Gladis, nee Hayes (Pete), Crystal Hoffmann, nee Hayes (Damon), and Kelly Hayes. Extremely proud of being Zaza to Mia and Ellie, Penelope, William, Ryker, and Savannah. Nothing made him prouder than his family. He was also a cherished son to the late Harry and Lorayne Marion nee Darrish, loving brother to the late Jay Marion (Carol) and Marsha Weinberg nee Marion (late Art). He was also a dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, and uncle to many.
Joel’s legacy lives on not only in his beautiful photographs, but in the many lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and steady presence.
Graveside service Thursday, July 31, 1 PM at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 650 White Rd. 63017.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
His camera may be still, but his light shines on in every memory, every smile, and every story we share. His “Joelisms” will live on, and for those we are deeply grateful.
