In Loving Memory: Joan Ruth Feuer Goltzman
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Joan Ruth Feuer Goltzman on July 23, 2025.
She was born on April 24, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, but she spent her youth in Enid, Oklahoma with her brother, Daniel. An avid canoeist as a teenager, she made and kept her own wooden paddle throughout her life.
Her parents were Otilia Hannah Korngold Feuer and Benno Albert Feuer. Attending Washington University in St. Louis, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education, becoming a teacher. In St. Louis, she met and married her husband Joseph Goltzman (June 6, 1964) where they resided for over six decades.
Endowed with artistic talent and a good eye, throughout her life she painted, worked with pastels and designed interiors as well as gardens, becoming a Master Gardener through the Missouri Botanical Garden. Joan was an expert with knitting needles, creating beautiful heirloom sweaters and blankets for her husband, children and grandchildren. A piano player as a girl, she returned to playing as an adult and was a lifelong supporter of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Joan was also a talented home chef, passing on her culinary skills and recipes to her children.
She served on the board of the Alzheimer’s Association of Missouri, lobbying the Missouri legislature for improved care, served on the American Horticultural Society’s Council Members Circle and volunteered at the Kemper Center for Home Gardening.
In retirement, she and Joe spent 6 months in the Colorado Rockies annually for 25 years and travelled extensively in the US and internationally. Joan took great joy in her three children, their spouses and her grandchildren: Michael Goltzman, his wife Chloée, and their children Théo, Julien and Maxime; Aaron Goltzman, his wife Jessica, and their children Stella and Parker; Rachel Goltzman, her husband Paul Swier, and their children Madeleine, Amelia and Jacob.
