Janice “Jan” Pearlmutter passed on January 15, 2018. Beloved daughter-in-law to Jewish Light founder, Morris Pearlmutter (Stella). Survived by life long companion, Daniel Pearlmutter. Mother to daughters Eve Pearlmutter, Shana Pearlmutter (Mohamed), Wende Meissner (Donald) and Christie Burns. Dear grandmother to Gideon, Ilana and Eli Meissner and Abrahim Pearlmutter-Danja. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Marilyn Stevens. Caring Aunt to John, Marilyn Ann, Paul and Robin Stevens, Great Aunt to Madelyn and Molly Stevens and Travis Dunn. Great-great Aunt to Aubree and Camron Dunn. Caring and loving confidant to many close friends both living and departed.
Jan attended Washington University School of Fine Arts graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Art degree in 1958. She was a much sought-after fashion illustrator, professional exhibiting artist and art teacher in the St. Louis area. Jan made her home in University City, Missouri where she was involved in many facets of the community, political activism and other charitable/volunteer endeavors.
As a renaissance woman, she was often called upon for her creative vision. She was a caring and gracious woman who never turned away a person or animal in need and was a loving mother to many with an open, nurturing heart and home.
After living in several nursing homes, she finally made her home at Delmar Gardens West where she became a part of many of the healthcare workers’ lives. The outpouring of love and care for her and the friendships will be long lasting.
We are at peace now that Jan can soar freely, seeing the vibrant and radiant colors of Mother Earth, which she so deeply missed because she had lost her sight 27 years ago. Jan’s celebration of life ceremony will take place in April close to her birthday when her favorite spring flowers begin to bloom. In Jan’s words, “Love you, Love you, Love you and God Bless!!!”
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Angels’ Arms, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing and supporting loving homes for foster children by keeping brothers and sisters together, www.angelsarms.org.
