MATTHEW BLUM, died September 6, 2009. Husband of Florence for 44 years; father of Alyssa (Barry) Schraier of St. Louis; Michael Blum of Boca Raton, Fla., and Diane (Bob) Farrington of San Jose. Ca.; grandfather of Ryan, Cory and Kevin of San Jose, Ca; grandfather of Ryan, Cory and Kevin. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y, he served in the Air Force during the Korean War. While living in New York, he owned a sign manufacturing company, “Arthur Blum Signs”. Hobbies were his passion. He loved flying, was an avid pilot for 6 years and a metal sculptor. HARVEY ROBERT KESSLER, 55, died suddenly from a heart attack & automobile accident on September 2, 2009, in Palm Desert, Calif. He was born March 31, 1954, to the late Alma Weil & Harry H. Kessler of Ladue. He attended Ladue School & Horton Watkins, University of New Mexico, & University of Southern California. In 2006 his second marriage was to Lillian (Lin Chen), whom he met in a Dispute Mediation course at College of the Desert and became father to Lily (Tang Yueh Sun), now 11. He was the brother of Sheila Kessler Michaels, the late Steve & the late Jon (Jeri) [Ida] Kessler. Harvey was close to his cousins Howard (Sarah Anne Patz) Nathanson, Rebecca Patz-Nathanson & Ariel Patz-Nathanson. He was the loving uncle of Nicki Kessler Parker (Alan Smith). He was a cousin of Marilyn Vittert (David) Lipman, Murray Vittert , Bruce & Mark Vittert, Thom & Jon Lobe, nephew of Frances (the late Saul) Kessler, and the late Ben [Dorothy], Irv, Sam [Gran] & Edie Kessler, the late Anne Wyckoff & the late Florence (Napoleon B.) Lobe. Harvey had a polished bass voice ( & laugh) & a sunny disposition. He was a talented speaker & writer. He was passionately involved in the Jewish community in both Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs and Temple Sinai in Palm Desert. He loved jazz and had it playing all day, at work and abroad. He was co-Executor of the Steve Kessler Scholarship Fund for Percussionists, at Webster University Community Music School.

ROBERT ERNEST SATZ, died August 29, 2009. Born January 21, 1926, and recently of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. Satz was also a longtime resident of Miami, Fla. Widower of Phyllis Pollyea Satz; son of the late Evelyn Cohen Satz and the late Louis Lester Satz; brother of Linda Satz Barton of St. Louis and the late Marilyn Satz Smith; father of Gail S. Satz, Jared B. Satz and Brett (Buffy Weathington) Satz; grandfather of Skye and Ariana Satz; uncle of Caitlin Barton-Landfield (Matthew Landfield) and Jason G. Barton; dear friend, cousin, colleague, lovingly remembered for his constant ability to make us laugh. Memorial service will be planned for later in the Fall, 2009.

SUE WOLVERSON (NEE RUBIN), died September 5, 2009 at the age of 91. Mother of Shirley of St. Louis and Nancy of Reno, Nev.; sister of Herman (the late Bonnie) Rubin of Defiance, Mo., sister-in-law of Henry (the late Lil) Hutkin; aunt to Anita Hutkin, Sally (Erol) Amon, Steve (Bridget) Rubin, Mark (Marsha) Rubin, Sheila (Jack) Kunitz, Kathy (John) Compagno, Hans (Rosa) Bertsch, and “Aunt Sue” to many; daughter of the late Simon (Smerl) and the late Sarah (Talesnik) Rubin; sister of the late Bill (the late Mary) Rubin and the late Lillian Hutkin. She had many lifelong friends in the Greeley Group and Culture Vultures. Born Sonia Rimer in Tulchin, Russia in 1918, Sue immigrated to the United States arriving at Ellis Island in 1922 on the RMS Aquitania. The family settled in St. Louis and after graduating from Washington University in 1940 with a Business degree, she spent the next 50 years working as an independent accountant and late in life as part-time faculty at Washington University. Sue was sympathetic and generous, giving of her time and resources to many organizations including a long association with the League of Women Voters, American Society of Women Accountants and the local Democratic Party. She enjoyed her time spent in recent years under the excellent loving care of Bethesda Dilworth and SarahCare adult day services. Terri, Mary, Fran, Darlene and Davis enabled her to spend her final years at home under the care of her daughters with help from close friends Mary Linderer and the late Irene Sulana. In keeping with Sue’s wishes, her body has been donated to Washington University School of Medicine.
