Herbert Sobelman, August 29, 1927 – September 30, 2025
Beloved husband of the late Adrienne Sobelman; dear father and father-in-law of Mark Sobelman (Saundra), Steve Sobelman (Joy), David Sobelman (Sherry) and Ellen Sobelman Bancroft (Alan Snyder); dear grandfather of Lauren Sobelman, Scott Sobelman (Rebecca), Stacey Sobelman, Michael Sobelman (Vickey Brown), Andrew Gall (Carleigh), Jason Sobelman, Jessica Bancroft (Drew Kollmeyer), John Bancroft; dear great-grandfather of Cecilia, Alice, David and Dante; dear brother of the late Sylvia Bremer (late Milton) and the late Barbara Bournstein (late Howard); dear brother-in-law of Gloria Spitzer (late Sanford) and Elaine Lending (late Ronald); our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Herb was a loving, kind and generous man, who was the glue that held together the Sobelman family. He lived in St. Louis his entire life and was completely devoted to Adie, his wife of 72 years, and to his family. He served in the Merchant Marines during WW2 and the Naval Reserves for nine years after that. He co-founded Fairway Manufacturing Company with his father-in-law, serving as its CEO for more than forty years. He was a patron of many charities and served on the Board of Directors of United Hebrew Congregation. He was dedicated to his family and was a loyal friend to many. He always had a positive attitude and brought much joy and love into so many lives.
A private graveside service was held on October 3 at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 PM on Friday, October 3 at Mark and Sandy Sobelman’s residence, 10 Lynnbrook, Frontenac, MO 63131.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to United Hebrew Congregation, 13788 Conway Road, St. Louis, MO 63141.
