Carolyn A. Rosenfeld, July 3, 2018 in St. Louis.

Carolyn was born on May 5, 1943 to Abraham and Beverly Rosenfeld. She grew up in Des Moines and lived most of her adult life in the St. Louis area.

Carolyn graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines and attended the University of Missouri receiving her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. She taught in the St. Louis School District for almost 35 years, retiring in 2000. She was an early pioneer in her field of special education. Her ability to test, evaluate, and place students with varying disabilities was highly respected by parents and her colleagues.

Carolyn had a heart of gold. She was generous to a fault. She was always more interested in you than she was in herself. She was always active in conversation and genuinely interested in your thoughts and opinions. She never failed to ask about you and your family first.

Carolyn loved her family and her friends more than anything in the world. If you were fortunate enough to be a part of that circle, you knew what it meant. There wasn’t a thing she would not do for you if she could, using her talent, her time, or her financial resources.

Carolyn shared 20 years of her life with Paul Korklan. During those 20 years, they were totally devoted to each other and Carolyn missed Paul every day after his passing for the rest of her life.

Carolyn was an active member of her synagogue, Brith Shalom-Kneseth Israel for decades. For many years, following the footsteps of her mother, she managed the gift shop there. She also remained a member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue in Des Moines her entire life.

Carolyn is survived by her five nieces and nephew, Sari Winick, Amy Shmarak, Jeremy Rosenfeld, Natalie Muller, and Dr. Andrew Rosenfeld; numerous cousins and friends, including two special friends, Barbara Shapiro and Sheldon Korklan, both of St. Louis. Carolyn would also want to thank her caregivers of many years, Yvonne Conley, Wendy Hall, and Wanda Martin.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, Abe and Beverly Rosenfeld, and her brother Martin Rosenfeld.

Services for Carolyn will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue with burial to follow at Waveland Cemetery. A meal of consolation will be held after burial at Tifereth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
