Carol Rafsky (nee Gerr), May 1, 1951 – August 3, 2025
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.
Beloved wife of the late Louis Rafsky. Dear mother of David (Kirsten Shelton) Rafsky and Cheryl (Dr. David) Rafsky-Shanberg. Loving Grammy of her amazing grandson, Levi, and granddaughters, Emilia and Freyja. Dear sister of Elaine (Art) Ruder. Beloved sister-in-law of Errol (Marlene) Rafsky, Mark Rafsky and Steve (Greta) Rafsky. Beloved daughter of the late Cecil and the late Sylvia Burstein Gerr. Dear aunt, cousin and loyal, life-long friend to many. A special thank you to Harriet and her wonderful team of caregivers.
Carol earned a Bachelor of Science in English Education from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s Degree in Teaching the Blind and Visually Impaired from the University of Northern Colorado. Carol taught in Gary, Indiana; Omaha, Nebraska; and then taught English to legally blind students, grades seven to twelve, at the Missouri School for the Blind for 28 years.

Carol had a personal philosophy, “take things one day at a time” and “when life gets hard, remember to laugh when you can, because it’s easier to laugh than cry”. She also enjoyed swimming, trivia, word games, and playing Mah Jongg. Carol moved to Leawood, Kansas in 2022.
Funeral service Wednesday, August 6, 12:30pm at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road with interment to follow at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road.
