Bernard “B” Eder

Bernard “B” Eder passed away on November 3, 2018, at 95 years of age.
Born in Boston, MA, B was raised and then resided in St. Louis, MO. Beloved husband of 73 years to the late Shirley Sakowsky Eder and the loving father of the late Gordon Eder, B is survived by his daughters, Lynn, Susan, Carol and Ellen. His cherished brothers are the late Ray Eder and the late Leon Eder.
B left Washington University in 1941 to enlist for pilot training in the Army Air Corps 6 months before Pearl Harbor. In 1944, he piloted a B-17 crew on eight successful missions. During the ninth mission he and his crew were forced to abandon their plane. B spent the remainder of the war as a POW on German soil and was awarded a Purple Heart.
A 1947 graduate of Washington University in Business Administration, he became an accountant and then a CPA in his father’s firm, eventually heading his own company for the remainder of his professional career. During this time, he enthusiastically attended St. Louis Symphony performances and enjoyed playing golf. He was a volunteer advisor for the St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, played trumpet in the St. Louis Shriner’s Hospitals for Children band, and served on the board of the Summit Brass. He was a 33rd degree Mason.
B touched many people’s lives; he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many friends and extended family. A memorial service will be held next March at the Soldier’s Memorial, St. Louis.
