Arthur Gale
Passed away September 17, 2025, just after his 95th birthday. His generosity and kindness touched everyone who met him.
Born in St. Louis, Art graduated from University City High School where he was class president. He studied at the University of Chicago and completed his undergraduate studies at Washington University. Art graduated from the University of Missouri Medical School and went on to practice internal medicine for over 60 years.
He was a compassionate, dedicated practitioner who advocated tirelessly for his patients. He was president of the Jewish Hospital medical staff, a longtime delegate to the American Medical Association and the President of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. He established three lecture series, including the Arthur Gale Medical Arts Series at the St. Louis County Library, the Jewish Lives Series at the St. Louis Jewish Book Festival and the Arthur Gale Family Lecture series at the St. Louis Holocaust Museum.
Each Thanksgiving family members share a reading about freedom, a tradition Art began decades ago. His children and grandchildren loved to visit with him on his patio, his favorite spot. He’d point to his Freedom Garden and say, “Look at my beautiful Bracken Brown Magnolias. They sparkle like diamonds! There’s nothing more beautiful.”
