JERUSALEM (JTA) — A World War II-era Soviet tank was unearthed during the excavation of a site in Holon.

The rusting tank was found Monday buried underground in the large industrial area of Holon, located about six miles from Tel Aviv. Ironically, the excavation was taking place on Merkava Street; Merkava is the mane of Israel’s domestically produced tank.

It is believed that the tank was captured during one of Israel’s wars. It is unknown if it was buried on purpose or if it was accidentally covered during drainage work.

Following the discovery of the tank, the area was closed off out of fear that explosives remained on or near the military vehicle. Israel Police posted photos of the tank on its Facebook page.
