(JTA) — Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine has offered to pay for the funeral for slain singer Christina Grimmie.
Levine was Grimmie’s coach on the sixth season of the The Voice. Grimmie, who came in third place, released two albums and remained popular with fans. She was killed on Friday in Orlando by a deranged fan while she was signing autographs following a concert.
Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, announced in a post on his Facebook page on Monday that Levine had offered to pay for the cost of the funeral and flying her body home, and that a GoFundMe page set up to help defray the costs of the burial had reached $100,000.
“I found out this morning, that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away. Now a friend just told me to look at the gofundme page and I see it is at 100k. Words cannot express…literally I have no words,” Marcus Grimmie wrote.
In a Twitter post on Saturday, Levine said he and his wife were “absolutely devastated and heartbroken” at the news of Grimmie’s death.
