ROME (JTA) — Pope Francis will visit Rome’s main synagogue, the local Jewish community announced.
The pope’s visit is scheduled to take place on January 17, according to Tuesday morning’s announcement.
It is the third time that a sitting Pope has visited the synagogue. Pope John Paul II visited the synagogue in 1986 and Pope Benedict the XVI visited in 2010.
During his visit, the Pope will meet with national and local Jewish leaders.
