JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed at the Tapuach Junction in the West Bank after opening fire on a soldier.

The Palestinian man opened fire with a hand gun on soldiers from the Border Police manning a checkpoint at the junction close to midnight on Monday. He got off at least 6 shots, according to the IDF.

A soldier was wounded in the leg and evacuated to an Israeli hospital.

The soldiers returned fire, killing the assailant.

The incident comes a week after a 19-year-old Palestinian was arrested at the same junction after soldiers discovered he was wearing a suicide vest containing 12 pipe bombs. He was believed to be on his way to perpetrate a suicide attack in an Israeli city.

“The two latest attacks are concerning. At the least they are a bad omen of bad things brewing,” Lt.-Col. Peter Lerner, IDF spokesman, said in a tweet.
