Mild earthquake, third in a week, strikes Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A mild earthquake struck Israel, the third temblor in the past week.

The earthquake was felt in the area of Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee at noon on Sunday. It measured between 3.5 and 4 on the Richter scale.

The previous day, an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale occurred in northern Israel with its epicenter between the Hula Nature Reserve and the Sea of Galilee.

A third earthquake with a 3.5 magnitude occurred late last week, also near Tiberias.

It is not known what the string of mild earthquakes means, and if it is a precursor of a larger earthquake in the region.
