JERUSALEM (JTA) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will meet in Jordan with King Abdullah II to discuss the escalating tensions in Jerusalem and the fight against ISIS.

Kerry was set to arrive in Amman on Wednesday for a two-day visit, according to deputy State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf.

The State Department in recent weeks has called on Israel and the Muslim community to act with restraint to deescalate tensions over Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount.

From Jordan, Kerry will move on to the United Arab Emirates on Friday to participate in the Sir Bani Yas Forum, an annual gathering of world leaders and thinkers discussing peace and security issues.
