WASHINGTON (JTA) – The more than $2.8 million raised by the John Hagee Ministries during its “Night to Honor Israel” will be distributed to some 30 Israeli and Jewish charities.
The 33rd annual event Sunday night was hosted by Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel, or CUFI. A total of $80 million has been raised to date.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, radio host Dennis Prager, Hagee and Counsul General of Israel for the Southwest Meir Shlomo spoke at the event at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio. Rabbi Pynchas Brener, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Caracas, Venezuela, gave the closing benediction.
The speakers expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear weapons program, and their concern that the U.S. and other world powers are wavering in their negotiations with the Islamic Republic over curbing the program.
“These are the people who openly state they intend to destroy Israel and America,” Hagee said of Iran’s leaders. “Bowing to Iran’s demands will not bring peace to Israel and it will not bring peace to the world,” he said.
Among the organizations receiving support from the money raised were: the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Bikur V’Ezras Cholim, Forum for Christian Enlistment, Friends of the IDF, Heart of Benjamin, International Council of Young Israel, the Jewish Agency for Israel, Just One Life, the Koby Mandell Foundation, Magen David Adom, Meir Panim, Nahal Haredi, Nefesh B’Nefesh, Netanya Academic College, Save a Child’s Heart, Shurat Hadin, Western Galilee Hospital, the Women’s International Zionist Organization, World ORT and Yad Vashem.
