(JTA) — Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man after he stabbed and injured two soldiers, one of them critically.
The attacker stabbed the soldiers with a knife, striking the seriously-injured soldier in the neck in the attack Wednesday morning near the West Bank settlements of Shilo and Ofra, Army Radio reported.
The second stabbing victim was only lightly injured, according to the report, which did not name any of the individuals involved.
The Palestinian attacker was shot dead by troops present at the scene of the attack, between the village of Sinjil and Shilo.
“A stabbing attack has taken place near Shilo. The Palestinian assailant was killed. Two wounded were evacuated for further medical treatment,” the Israel Defense Forces’ spokesperson unit wrote on their Twitter account.
The seriously hurt soldier, 20, received medical treatment on site and was airlifted to a Jerusalem hospital, a Magen David Adom paramedic said.
The lightly injured soldier received treatment on site.
The incident took place around 10 a.m. north of Ramallah on Route 60, the main artery in the West Bank, outside the settlement of Shilo and 10 miles south of Ofra.
Overnight on Wednesday, Israeli security forces arrested nine Palestinians suspected of involvement in riots and terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and security personnel in the West Bank.
