The National Council of Jewish Women-St. Louis will honor Dana Sandweiss with its Hannah G. Solomon Founder’s Award, NCJW’s most prestigious recognition on Thursday, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Congregation Shaare Emeth, 11645 Ladue Road. NCJW’s Hannah G. Solomon Award is presented annually to an individual who has helped to change and expand the role of other individuals in vital areas of community life, and whose leadership has motivated others to fight for change. In addition, honorees for the annual section awards will also be recognized.
The Hannah G. Solomon award recipients exemplify the NCJW mission of improving the quality of life for women, children, and families.
“Dana Sandweiss embodies the tireless spirit and vision of the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis (NCJWSTL), consistently championing women’s rights and reproductive freedom with remarkable dedication and resilience,” NCJWSTL said in a statement. “From leading NCJW’s Celebrating Women—an event she successfully chaired during the challenging 2019 COVID period—to co-founding Access Missouri, Dana’s influence has been far-reaching.”
Access Missouri, a political action group inspired by Jewish values, has educated and supported pro-choice candidates across the state, with Sandweiss taking an active role in fundraising and event planning. In the wake of the Dobbs decision, she mobilized and inspired her community, gathering thousands of signatures statewide to put Amendment 3 on the ballot, including at times under harsh opposition.
“Dana’s deep commitment to civil rights shines through her leadership roles on boards such as Planned Parenthood, ACLU-MO and BBYO Women’s Leadership, and today, her accomplishments are celebrated as a true testament to the transformative power of advocacy,” the NCJWSTL release continued.
