There’s something about a St. Louis kid making it big and then circling back home that always hits a little differently.
On Tuesday, April 28, the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis will welcome KMOV sports anchor and reporter Tamar Sher for its next “Coffee Talk,” a one-hour Zoom conversation featuring St. Louis sportscaster Tamar Sher and her rise in sports media.
From St. Louis to the spotlight
Sher, a St. Louis native and Clayton High School graduate, has built a fast-rising career in sports broadcasting, most recently earning Missouri Sportscaster of the Year honors, becoming the first woman to receive the award.
If that sounds impressive, it is. But the more interesting part is how she got there.
Breaking into a tough field
From covering major college programs and professional teams to working her way into locker rooms and press boxes that haven’t always made space for women, Sher has carved out a role in a field that still leans heavily male.
And she’s done it while staying rooted in the place that first sparked her love of sports.

“I lived and breathed Cardinals and Blues,” Sher said when she returned to St. Louis to join KMOV, calling the opportunity a “dream come true.”
What she’ll share
During the April 28 session, attendees will hear about that journey, the early hustle, the challenges and the moments that mattered, along with how Sher navigates the demands of live sports coverage and storytelling in a constantly evolving media landscape.
“Coffee Talk,” a recurring virtual series hosted by NCJW St. Louis, typically brings together local voices for informal but thoughtful conversations on everything from journalism to culture.
This time, the focus is sports, storytelling and what it takes to make it, and then come home.

The event runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Zoom. Registration is free, but required.
