The Karen Solomon Young Adult Service Initiative will hold its third event from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 10. The initiative, which focuses on providing an opportunity for Jewish young adults to help “repair the world” through community service, will again partner with Gateway 180, an emergency shelter for women and families.

“Volunteering at Gateway 180 was a heart-changing moment,” said Solomon Initiative participant Orli Pinsberg.

“Spending time with the families and giving the children a chance to be kids really seemed to brighten their spirits.”

The June Solomon Initiative event will be focused on fix-up projects throughout the shelter.  Gateway 180 has a real need to brighten up its living space and outdoor areas during the summer months.  Volunteers will be doing simple landscaping projects and painting indoor areas.  No prior experience is needed.

The Solomon Initiative is a project of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of St. Louis, Jewish Community Center and Next Dor STL.
